Apple Crisp

4 cups sliced peeled tart apples (~4 medium size) OR mix apples and pears OR add dried cranberries or cherries for color and flavor
2/3 – 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup quick oats
3/4 tsp sucanat
3/4 tsp cinnamon
3/4 tsp fresh grated nutmeg
1/2 cup butter (one stick), cut into pieces

  • Preheat oven to 375 F
  • Place apples in buttered 8x8x2 pan, sprinkle with sucanat to taste, nutmeg, and cinnamon to taste; bake til can smell apples (20-30 min)
  • Mix dry ingredients with hands til well blended, blend in butter with fingers til moist & crumbly, add more butter if still dry (can double dry ingredients for more crisp)
  • Sprinkle dry ingredients over cooked apples and return to oven; bake 20-30 minutes more or til golden brown.
